Ballet Classes are geared to improve and strengthen technique in ballet as well as other areas of dance, since the basis of all dance strongly relates to ballet. The purpose of every class is to improve the body's ability to move by increasing strength, flexibility, and precision. The student will learn how to multi-task and cue movements to music. The work falls into three parts. The first part consists of stretching and warming-up exercises done with the support of the barre. The students may spend anywhere from thirty to forty minutes at the barre. Students then move to the center of the studio to work without support. The second part of class called an adagio, consists of slow work in which the emphasis is on sustaining positions and on balance. The final part of class, allegro, consists of fast work, mostly combinations with the big jumps and turns that make ballet such an impressive and dazzling sight.
Classical ballet classes will be offered beginning at first grade. Attendance is extremely important and should be taken seriously. Arriving to class on time is essential because the body needs to properly warm up to prevent injury. Ballet should not end when you walk out the door if you expect to get the most out of it.
